Synopsis

Sept. 18 1863, a day after the battle of Antietam, a disastrous bloodbath defeat for the Confederacy. A battle-weary Confederate soldier wandering along an isolated country path along the Maryland-Virginia border happens on a young woman. Whe learns he is on a secret mission, and decides it must be a spying mission. Excited at the prospect of escaping hrer isolated life, she wants to accompany and aid the soldier. But he is mysteriously ambivalent about his mission, and unaccountably threatening towards her. The encounter of these two defensive and yet tender people leads them to confront their past and present situations, and their own characters. a surprising, touching story about the brutality of war, and the tenderness of affection.
