Mr. Albee tells his entire story during one drunken evening in the home of a professor in a small cottage. Him and his wife left a party and invited a couple in for a nightcap. The drinking continues. The hostess wants to have sex with the young man. The elderly couple has a very sad and despairing relationship which they try to keep within the limits of the most earthbound of alcoholic patterns, leads to psychological limbo in which these two distressed people have taken refuge. NOTE: This edition is no longer available for production. Albee revised the play in 2005 and published it through New American Library. The new, revised edition is now the only script available for production.
