Synopsis

The 'Old Flames' of the title of course refers to the four women in Edward's life who come together to form the rather odd plot of this rarely performed play. 'Old Flames' is a piece of anger and a sideways glance at relationships, revenge, and repulsion.  With long speeches which allow the actors to shine this was a perfect vehicle for Gary to show his natural charm while condemning his character to the audience.  Cushman below describes the effect as 'slithering' which proves the point I think.
