Synopsis

"The riddle of John Brown is so essentially simple that it baffles the hospital doctor and his staff. They naturally suspect things are more complicated than they turn out to be. A man who arrives at a nursing home in the early hours of the morning, carrying a case stuffed with pound notes and expecting the kind of service provided by a hotel. John Brown says he isn't sick, and there is enough evidence for us to agree that he isn't. Brown's vocation is 'to do nothing, and have nothing expected of him'; in worldly terms, abnormal enough to justify the doctor's careful observation of him."
